Learning to Stay Humble
I think that in life, you have to know how to stay humble…
And when I say that, I'm not just talking about how we treat others. I'm also talking about the humility we must learn to have toward ourselves.
Let me explain.
When I was a teenager and in my early adulthood, I had what is known as’performance anxiety.
I always had to do more.
Did I get a 90%? I needed to get a 95%.
I got 95%? Then I had to aim for 100%.
Was I liked at work? I had to be adored.
Was I doing a good job? That wasn't enough. It had to be flawless.
In short, I was constantly pushing myself to do better.
And yes, it helped me develop certain qualities. I learned to be thorough, hardworking, a perfectionist, and to set high standards for myself.
But looking back, I also realize that Constantly striving for «more and more» is exhausting.
🎯 Just how far should you really push yourself?
At some point, you have to ask yourself:
What will this really change?
Will my life be better if I reach 95% instead of 90%?
Will I be a better person just because everything I do is perfect?
Will people love me more because I do everything perfectly?
The answer is no.
Because perfection doesn't exist.
It's like chasing after an ideal that simply doesn't exist. And the more you chase after it, the further away it gets. 🏃♀️💨
Performance anxiety can eventually become a real burden when you constantly feel like you’re never doing enough.
🤍 You can be a wonderful person without being perfect
I think we need to learn to tell ourselves:
«I can do that.»
«That's not a problem for me anymore.»
«Here, I could improve.»
«I'm not perfect at this… and you know what? I'm okay with that.»
Because acknowledging our limitations doesn't diminish our worth.
You might not be as good in certain areas.
We may run into some difficulties.
People make mistakes.
You might be less interested in certain things.
There may be times when you're less involved.
Not everyone has to like you.
And That doesn't make us any less worthy.
It simply makes us human. 🌱
🦋 The Beauty of Imperfection
I believe that part of what makes human beings beautiful lies precisely in this imperfection.
We have strengths and weaknesses.
Some things come easily to us, while others require much more effort.
Qualities we are cultivating and aspects of ourselves we are still working on.
And that's fine.
You don't have to be exceptional at everything.
You don't have to be the best.
You don't even have to be liked by everyone.
We simply need to learn to be at peace with who we are, while continuing to grow. 🌿
So learn to respect your limits.
Learn to recognize when you're capable of doing more… and when it's simply too much.
Also, learn to give yourself permission not to be perfect.
Because when we’re constantly striving to do more, be better, perform better, and meet all our own expectations, we may end up forgetting something essential:
Our value doesn't need to be constantly proven. 🤍
Sometimes, doing your best is enough.
And sometimes, the best thing you can do is simply know when to stop. 🦋
Signed, a soul under the sun ☀️
